Five to Thirty Minute Chair

his is the AtFAB piece that started it all. When we offered the 5-30 Minute Chair for download, we wondered who if anyone might make it and how far it might go. Two years later, it has been locally fabricated by makers around the world, and provoked AtFAB’s reputation as “IKEA disruptor” and “iTunes for Furniture.” Its slightly awkward stance is a pure product of ShopBot and sheet material, and the intentional expression of the way it is made. The chair was recently acquired by the Centre National des Arts Plastiques for their permanent collection and exhibited in “Oracles du Design” at la Gaite Lyriqe in Paris through August 2015. Available through OpenDesk for local fabrication and delivery.

he 5-30 Minute Chair download file includes toolpaths for a single side chair that requires half of a 4′x8′x¾” sheet. A pair of chairs very efficiently nests onto a single sheet of material. Fasten each chair’s 10 interlocking parts with 30 screws or pegs to maximize your chair’s durability and longevity. Further accessorize chairs with a Peg & Foot Kit printed in colorful ABS plastic, found at AtFAB’s Thingiverse page.
